I took part in the Implicit Association Test (IAT) that focused on age.  The results of this test indicated that I have a strong automatic preference for young people over old people. When I decided to take this IAT over the others it is because I feel that I try to treat everyone equally regardless of age. I have many friends ranging in age, but my results indicated differently. My final result from my IAT based off my responses suggests a strong automatic preference for young people over old people. Even though I thought I had a neutral response to both old and young people I never anticipated that I could have implicit views on any people. This result, however, is a common result for those that take this IAT. I will use these results to be more self-aware of the possible ageism I have towards those in the older age category.  My explicit attitude tells me that I should like young people and old people equally. So, I think my implicit attitudes somehow do not line up with my explicit attitudes. Maybe it’s because I am a young person, so I tend to like young people more and would sometimes find it hard to understand old people.   2.The Weight IAT results showed that I did not have a bias towards overweight or thin people.  I pride myself on being non-judgmental about anyone, so I was not shocked at the result of the disability test. My implicit attitudes somehow line up with my explicit attitudes. I always try to treat people with equal respect, and I also try not to judge a person’s physique.  3.Gender-Career The results of this test indicated that I have a slight automatic association for male with career and female with family. While this does not align with my explicit attitude, I can see why I have this particular implicit attitude. Growing up, society taught me that men were the breadwinners while women were the ones that took care of the family. This is where my unconscious attitude was formed. Explicitly, I believe that men and women should provide equally in a home. There should not be pressure on the man to make all of the money for the household and there should not be pressure on the woman to stay at home all day to cook, clean, and take care of the children. Teamwork in a household is ideal.  Sexuality IAT Result: Your responses suggested a moderate automatic preference for Straight people over Gay  People. I think my implicit attitudes somehow do not line up with my explicit attitudes. I should like straight people and gay people equally. That is what my explicit attitude tells me. People deserve to fall in love with who they want to, even with people with the same sex. I like gay people. I think they are warm and friendly. However, I could also understand why the result suggests that I have moderate preference for straight people over gay people.
