Quantitative research is a method of collecting and analyzing numerical data using mathematical and statistical techniques in evaluation. It uses deductive reasoning whereby the researcher aims at proving, disproving or lending validity to theories that are in existence. Quantitative research starts from a fixed hypothesis which forecasts the relationship between or among variables in research (Oflazoglu, 2017).

On the other hand, qualitative research is a method of collecting and analyzing data that is not numerical such as audio, video, or text. It uses inductive reasoning, which involves arriving at a conclusion from specifics to the general. It has no fixed hypothesis and involves coming up with a theory from data collected.

Essay 2: Social Theory by Karl Marx

Karl Marx discusses the struggle between the ruling class and the working class. The ruling class controls capital while the working class provide labour and are alienated. The theory explains capitalism today and the conflict between workers and employers (Karlsson & Månson, 2017).

Organic and Mechanical Solidarity theory by Durkheim. The theory explains the relationship of people in society. In small undifferentiated societies, there is a mechanical relationship. However, differentiated societies have an organic relationship with a complex division of labour. The theory explains the relationships between people in urban areas and rural areas (Karlsson & Månson, 2017).

Protestant Ethics by Weber argues that Protestants played a considerable role in spreading capitalism through the doctrine of predestination. The theory helps understand modern capitalism, which sees profit as the main objective (Karlsson & Månson, 2017).

The article illustrates how artificial intelligence plays a role in the sustainability of the energy industry. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology plays a critical role in technological developments and has changed consumption, trade, demand, and supply of energy in a great way. AI in the energy sector helps in decision-making and operationalization. For example, smart software is used to control the power grid autonomously. The study focused on AI’s recent advances in the management of demand and supply, hydrogen, and solar power generation.

  • Research objectives

The research objective of the study was to explore how AI is used in the generation of power using hydrogen and solar, the recent development in AI technology, and the use of AI in the management control of demand and supply.

The study extensively reviewed published literature on the use of AI through selective assessment of information. The methodology applied for the paper is content analysis to illustrate how AI has contributed to the sustainability of the energy industry.

  • Results and discussions

The study found that the use of AI in the energy sector has enhanced operational performance. It has also enabled new, and complex data related to the energy industry boosting efficiency in the sector which is highly competitive. AI has outperformed traditional models in computational efficiency, predictive maintenance control, energy efficiency optimization, robotics, IoT, smart grid, cyberattack protection, handling big data, and controllability.

The study is related to my research because it points out the application of AI technology in the real world and this case the energy sector. It highlights the need for players in the industry to focus on the development of AI technologies to remain competitive. The use of AI relates to matters of customer information security, privacy, and safety. These issues have been discussed in the paper and they are highly important in the application of AI.

Application of machine learning and artificial intelligence for covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic

  • Main idea

The study reviewed the application of AI and machine learning in the health sector and in particular how it was used in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, AI was a new technology used in supporting the fight against the disease. The study evaluated the role played by ML and AI in screening, prediction, forecasting, tracing contacts, and development of drugs for the virus.

  • Research objectives

The research objective of the study was to evaluate the various applications of machine learning and AI in the management of COVID-19, the computational system of challenges in a real-world problem, as well as the use of AI in processes such as vaccination, contract tracing, prediction, and treatment.

  • Methodology

The methodology used in collecting data and information involved selective assessment of research articles on databases that were related to ML and AI technology. A deep-learning algorithm was employed in the paper.

  • Results and discussion

The paper mainly addressed current research that uses ML and AI technology and augmented researchers on many dimensions. It addressed a number of challenges and errors realized while using ML and AI technology. It further recommends and suggests various ways of tackling covid-19 pandemic now and in the future. A deep learning algorithm was used in the paper and it was realized to be better than other learning algorithms. ML and AI technology is highly helpful in screening, prediction, forecasting, tracing contacts, and development of medications during pandemics.

The use of AI technology has advanced and can be applied in various fields. The medical and health sector is one of the areas in which machine learning and AI have been applied. During the COVID-19 pandemic, technology was helpful in the treatment and control of the disease.

 

The potential for artificial intelligence in healthcare

  • Main idea

AI and related technologies have increasingly become instrumental in various businesses and society. The technologies are applicable in the healthcare industry. The paper examines the use of machine learning (ML) in medicine or the healthcare sector.

  • Research objectives

The objective of the paper is to inform medical practitioners such as clinicians on the use of ML in diagnosing, classifying illnesses, predicting outcomes, and antimicrobial management in ID.

  • Methodology

The study used a systematic search strategy to identify materials, articles, and journals for use. The methodology helped in identifying materials in various digital libraries. Multiple databases were identified as sources.  In the identified articles, data was extracted and analyzed using ML-CDSS.

  • Results and discussion

The ML tools can be used to carry out a number of clinical trials and tests. The tools have multiple clinical results such as antibiotic regimen selection, SSI diagnosis, ICU sepsis prediction, and so on. Machine learning learns and improves from experience with no need to be programmed explicitly. On the other hand, an expert system is representative of the most recent Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS).

  • Relate

Machine learning is helpful in overcoming challenges in expert systems. It was actually developed to overcome the constraints. The ML systems are able to interpret unknown situations after learning from data. This is because artificial findings of rules replace human hand-coded rules. Therefore, machine learning is highly applicable in various sectors including the health sector.

Growing up, I recall preparing for my dance recitals and having to wear beige tights because they were the only “nude” color stockings available to me. For decades, fashion has featured predominantly thin white models, but in recent years, with the lead of consumer demand and social media, designers have started progressing to include models outside this category. One designer who is here to challenge these fashion norms is Rihanna. From her Fenty beauty line to her Savage collection, Rihanna is creating products that actually acknowledge the diversity of the world we live in.

In the past, the fashion industry largely showcased thin, white models, but recently, driven by consumer demand and the influence of social media, designers have started breaking away from this tradition. Rihanna, in particular, is challenging these fashion norms with her Fenty beauty line and Savage collection, which celebrate diversity and inclusivity.

Rihanna’s latest Savage x Fenty lingerie show, which closed out New York Fashion Week, defied conventional fashion show norms and received a tremendous response. The show featured women of all body shapes, sizes, and skin colors, including two pregnant women—a rare sight in the fashion world. Rihanna’s decision to cast real women on the runway was widely praised and celebrated on the internet.

The show featured a wide range of nude-colored pieces, catering to the diverse spectrum of skin tones that exist. The size range was also impressive, with bras available from 32 A to 44 DD and underwear from XS to 3X. Savage x Fenty demonstrates that diversity not only matters but is also a recipe for success. The entire presentation conveyed a powerful message of empowerment and celebrated the differences among women. Collections like this represent a significant step forward in diversifying the fashion industry, creating an inclusive space for everyone to express their individuality.

Savage x Fenty is a forward-thinking line that exemplifies what fashion should be. Rihanna’s collection redefines beauty by embracing authenticity without apology. When young girls see women who look like them in media and advertising, it reshapes their perception of beauty and instills the belief that they can achieve anything. While some brands superficially include diversity, there is still a long way to go in the fashion industry. Brands need to educate themselves on diversity and inclusion, starting with diverse decision-makers who can bring a broader range of perspectives and ideas. This shift can elevate inclusion in the fashion industry from a token gesture to the new standard.

Ranked 20th on Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World,” Robyn Rihanna Fenty, internationally known as Rihanna, was born on February 20th in Barbados. Rihanna is a singer, actress, and fashion designer. Her early life was marred by her parents’ troubled marriage, with her father’s drug addiction leading to domestic violence, including an incident where he broke her mother’s nose. Coping with these challenges, Rihanna turned to singing during her teenage years as a way to escape her difficult home life.

At the age of 15, she had a life-changing audition with music producer Evan Rodgers, who was deeply impressed by her talent. At 16, Rihanna left Barbados to pursue her music career in the United States, living with Rodgers and his wife. She recalls her determination, stating, “When I left Barbados, I didn’t look back. I wanted to do what I had to do, even if it meant moving to America.”

From the release of her debut single “Pon de Replay” to the present day in 2013, Rihanna has achieved continuous success and has become one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In 2006, she established the Believe Foundation to assist children with terminal illnesses. Tragically, in 2009, Rihanna experienced domestic violence at the hands of her boyfriend. Despite her troubled past, Rihanna used her inner strength to extricate herself from harmful situations and used her fame to make generous contributions. She is a true hero.

Rihanna displays strength through her resilience. After the 2009 incident with her boyfriend, she guarded her emotions, not allowing others to see her vulnerability. She explained, “I put my guard up so hard… I refused to let that be the image… I wanted them to see me as, ‘I’m fine, I’m tough.'” This resilience allowed her to continue pursuing her goal of becoming a singing sensation even after a humiliating public event.

Moreover, Rihanna became a prominent advocate against domestic violence, using her voice to raise awareness of this critical issue. Opening up about her personal struggles publicly, especially given her fame, requires tremendous courage. Celebrities are often seen as perfect, and her willingness to share her imperfections demonstrates her bravery. Her openness can help other women going through similar situations, showing them that they are not alone.

Rihanna is also an encourager. With fame comes the power to influence people, and Rihanna uses her platform to encourage her fans not to succumb to unrealistic body image standards imposed by society. She advocates against the pressure to conform to the fashion industry’s size zero standards and emphasizes the importance of embracing one’s natural body. Her words can provide encouragement to those who face body image issues or bullying due to their weight.

Furthermore, Rihanna’s influence extends to her role as a spokesperson against domestic violence. She believes she can be a voice to help others in dangerous relationships and warns young girls not to repeat her mistakes. Her advocacy empowers women to seek help and support when facing domestic violence, ultimately encouraging them to break free from abusive situations.

Finally, Rihanna demonstrates selflessness through her philanthropic efforts. She donated $1.8 million to a hospital in Barbados to support its modernization program, with the goal of saving lives and extending them. She hasn’t forgotten her roots and uses her success to give back to her community. In 2009, she helped a 5-year-old girl with leukemia find a bone marrow donor, displaying her willingness to assist others, even those she doesn’t know personally.

In conclusion, Rihanna serves as an inspiration with her strength, encouragement, and selflessness. Her ability to turn personal challenges into opportunities for positive change is commendable. She has the courage to speak out against domestic violence, encourage body positivity, and help those in need. Rihanna’s actions and words make her a hero worth admiring.

“Intellectual Property Right: The Case Rihanna v Topshop” sample intellectual essay

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) refer to the legal protection granted to intellectual creations, including patents, designs, trademarks, and copyrights. These rights are awarded to individuals or businesses responsible for creating these intellectual properties. IPR laws aim to safeguard the rights of creators, allowing them control over who can use their intellectual property and enabling them to generate income from it.

In the case of Rihanna v. Topshop, the plaintiff raised concerns related to passing off, as there were no specific laws protecting the use of public figures’ images in the UK. This study examines how Justice Birss approached the case and what led to his conclusion that the plaintiff had a legitimate claim against Topshop. It also explores the potential for an appeal and its merits.

Rihanna, a renowned pop star and fashion icon, sued Topshop for using her image on t-shirts without her permission. The defendant had obtained the image from an independent photographer who had initially taken the photo with the plaintiff’s consent during a video shoot. Rihanna’s claim was based on the unauthorized use of her image, constituting an infringement of her rights.

To establish her claim, the plaintiff had to prove that she possessed public goodwill, that the defendant’s actions involved misrepresentation, and that she had suffered losses due to these actions, following the precedent set by the case Reckitt & Colman Ltd v Borden Inc [1990] 1 All E.R. 873. While UK law does not provide direct protection for public figures’ images, it does offer safeguards for the distribution of specific photographs held privately.

The court found that the defendant’s conduct amounted to misrepresentation. Despite not using an authorization label or tag on the merchandise, the defendant’s attempts to link the plaintiff to their products created a strong conviction among customers that they had permission to use her image. The court also noted that the plaintiff’s image was a financial asset, and unauthorized use could negatively impact her career.

The court ruled that the use of the plaintiff’s image without permission had influenced the defendant’s sales, and the resulting deception had damaged the plaintiff’s goodwill. The defendant was ordered to pay legal fees and prohibited from further distributing merchandise featuring the plaintiff’s image.

Regarding the appeal, the appellate should argue that the use of the plaintiff’s image did not harm her reputation or contribute significantly to the defendant’s sales. They must demonstrate that their actions were not deceptive and that they acted in good faith. Ultimately, the success of the appeal will depend on their ability to prove that the plaintiff’s claims were not substantiated.

Additionally, Smith aims to express his stance on the war. He unequivocally states his opposition to the Taliban and suggests that their actions will never succeed as long as the US maintains a prominent presence in Afghanistan. Importantly, the author’s approach is to provide an objective report by heavily relying on the words of Tim Lynch and other news sources, such as the Washington Post. Furthermore, he aims to underscore the disparity in capabilities between the US military and the terrorist group, emphasizing that the tactics of the Taliban are ineffective, particularly when compared to the proactive stance of NATO forces and the US military.

Although the article lacks a clearly defined theoretical framework, it primarily addresses the domains of warfare and terrorism. This approach allows the author to connect with the reader and convey emotions effectively.

To recap, the author takes a clear and biased stance in favor of the American side of the conflict and relies heavily on quoted material. While the article provides a report on real events, its lack of neutrality compromises its quality as a neutral report.
