Many of the people who reside there are frail and need support for most of their day-to-day activities. One morning as you were beginning your shift you passed a person’s room and the door was wide open. As you glanced in you noticed a situation that disturbed you. This is what you saw: Another care worker was in the middle of changing a person’s bed and dressing them for the day. The older person was a frail woman who had unfortunately soiled her bed as she was unable to make the toilet on time by herself. Instead of working in a way to maintain the person’s dignity and privacy, the care worker you saw had left the bedroom door wide open, the curtain around the bed was open and the older person was half dressed and exposed to people walking by her room. She was asking the care worker to please shut the door or cover her up and the care worker’s response was not very kind as she said “well it is your fault, you shouldn’t have soiled your bed and then I wouldn’t have to change it with you in it”.In your view, the care worker you saw was not working in an ethical way. There were various procedures that she was not following for that particular situation and you felt that you needed to do something about it.
