BTW, what we’ve looked at is the tip of the iceberg in terms of the many areas we could review… With regards to gender identity and diversity of sexuality, there is a movement in our country to tame micro-aggressions and for everyone to be mindful of how they speak to and about others. For instance, it is no longer appropriate to say “that’s so gay!” Likewise, there is a movement to announce, and even modify, our use of pronouns when speaking to others. This involves asking people how they prefer to be addressed, which may include newly created pronouns (they/them/theirs, she/her/hers, xe/xem/xyrs, ze/zir/zirs, ze/hir/hirs, he/him/his and __/__/__.) and identifying, when appropriate, how we wish to be addressed. This helps eliminate any guesswork and helps to reduce micro-aggressions.For this post, please identify some thoughts on society’s efforts to question hetero-normativity, to reduce opportunities to offend and to introduce new pronouns.
