ThanksCase study – Harley Steinford is a 39-year-old man with multiple myeloma. Harley was brought to the Emergency Department at Beachworth Hospital by his wife, after he began complaining of acute pain in his right lower abdomen. An assessment indicated lower right abdominal tenderness with rebound pain. Pathology results confirmed high white blood cell count. Harley was diagnosed with acute appendicitis.  When updating Harley’s patient record, the Enrolled nurse (EN) noted a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order which was put in place during his last hospitalisation when he began cancer treatment. The EN also noted Harley’s wish for DNR in his Advanced Care Directive. The EN approached Harley to discuss the DNR order, including its applicability in the event of a cardiac arrest that might occur during or after this surgery. Harley insisted that the DNR order must still be followed.  The surgeon was informed by the EN about the patients ongoing request of following DNR and a new DNR order was documented by the surgeon. The on call surgical team performed an emergency appendectomy without any complications.  While in recovery room, the assigned Registered nurse (RN) was given handover about Harley’s DNR order. The RN, whose father also had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, refused to follow the DNR order (if the need arises). The RN explained to the team that she can see from Harley’s paperwork that he has a wife and 3 little children, and the RN did not believe that Harley understood how important the remaining time of life would be for him in helping to prepare his family for his impending death.Criteria to address are: Report on ethical issue in the case scenario.  1.     Human Rights Act Based on the Charter of Human Rights and responsibilities Act 2006, which human rights of Harley were compromised in this case scenario?
