Question Answered step-by-step Spiros is a 28 year old man who resides with his wife Rose of 3… Spiros is a 28 year old man who resides with his wife Rose of 3 years and their 2 year old son George. Spiros was critically injured in a motor vehicle accident 6 months ago, and he has permanent paraplegia as a result of a traumatic spinal cord injury at his T6level vertebrae. He had been hospitalized in intensive care for 5 weeks following his accident and was discharge to a rehabilitation hospital for an additional 6 weeks of therapy. He is now living in his home with his wife and is having a home care nurse twice weekly and occupational therapy visits once per week. George has been livingwith his maternal grandparents since the accident. Although Spiros’ parents are living close by independently, they are elderly and weak and cannot help Rose much with George’s care. When Spiros first returned home, he would not talk about the accident or his injuries. When Rose talked to him about this, Spiros told her he did not want to get well. He told her “she would be better without him.” Rose and Spiros admit they are in financial difficulty. One year ago they bought their home in the Danforth area of Toronto with theintention of fixing it up and reselling it as an investment. Now however, the home needs renovating to accommodate Spiros’ wheelchair and it has been difficult for them toafford the home renovations. Before the accident, Spiros worked as a construction Laborer and Rose worked in retail. Rose has taken a leave of absence from her job to be home with Spiros. Rose has said she would like to return to work because they needthe money, but feels guilty by leaving Spiros alone at home.Rose wishes to bring their son home from the grandparents. Spiros says he feels he cannot be a “real father” to his son and is anxious about George returning home. He is also worried about his aging parents and wonders who will look after them now that he isdisabled. Spiros and Rose both acknowledge that he has made considerable progress with his therapy since coming home and is becoming more independent with his ADLsand mobility. However, he says he doesn’t want his son seeing him “crippled like this” and doesn’t know what he can do to help care for him. Rose has been trying to encourageSpiros to talk about his feelings and says that she wants him to believe that she and their son need him, regardless of his injury. She has been urging Spiros to go with her to their local Greek Orthodox Church where they had been married. 1) Using the data from the case study, discuss and analyze* the following: the family’s perceptions of the chronic illness the impact of the illness/condition on the family’s structure, developmentaltasks, environmental conditions, and strengths the influence of the family on the illness/condition the intrafamilial, interfamilial and extrafamilial resources the family iscurrently using2) Identify one significant determinant of health that is influencing the family relativeto the chronic illness/condition.
