Question Answered step-by-step Simone was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 10 years ago. At the time… Simone was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 10 years ago. At the time of her diaqnosis her doctor had her attend classes to learn about monitoring her blood sugars and eating healthy. She went to the classes, but really didn’t believe she had diabetes. She felt fine and she didn’t have any family history of diabetes. In fact, her parents immigrated to the United States from France. The French have a very low incidence of diabetes. Surely her doctor had made a mistake. So, for the most part, Simone ate what she wanted and she never worried about testing her blood sugars. She didn’t have insurance to cover the cost of the test strips and they were just too expensive to purchase out of pocket. In addition, she decided not to go back to the doctor. She felt fine and he didn’t know what he was talking about anyway. Now that she is 50 years old, Simone has man- aged to all but forget about the diabetes. She is 5 feet and 5 inches tall and weighs 134 pounds. She is in her ideal body weight range and up to this point, has no symptoms of diabetes. Then, while preparing break- fast one morning for her family, Simone experiences a sudden, sharp pain down her left arm and unbearable pressure on her chest. She falls to the floor and, in a state of panic, her husband calls 911. Following emergent cardiac bypass surgery, Sim- one and her husband hear from the surgeon that she is lucky to be alive because the diabetes has greatly damaged her heart. The surgeon told Simone her Alc was 12.3, and that if she didn’t begin caring for her diabetes, she would certainly develop other complica- tions in the near future.Simon’s A1C is 12.3Compare this to the normal range for a healthy personCompare this to the recommended range for a diabetic Health Science Science Nursing Share QuestionEmailCopy link Comments (0)
