Question Answered step-by-step Respond to at least two colleagues in one of the following ways:… Respond to at least two colleagues in one of the following ways:Compare the greatest challenge your colleague has identified to the one you posted.Explain whether you think your colleague’s strategy for addressing the situation is likely to be effective and why. 1st post:In the Phoenix House, the supervisor’s role in regard to Daniel case is to gather information from staff in regard to Daniel’s situation to make a better decision and intervention for Daniel. This is shown when the supervisor speaks with Jim, the social work intern, and speak with a different staff in the Phoenix House (Plummer et al., 2014b). After their conversation, Daniel’s supervisor/counselor decides the outcome of Daniel’s stay. The supervisor seeking for more knowledge from other staff, listening to the staff opinions and applying the information to her client, are few of the leadership skills that might help the supervisor resolve the issue. The supervisor can also use a leadership skill to resolve the issue by being a resource allocator. For example, in Daniel’s case, his mother do not want him in her home and the Phoenix House is not a good place for Daniel because Daniel’s behavior do not match up with the character and attitudes of the other clients, and the staff and Daniel’s supervisor/counselor are concerned that the other clients may be a harmful influence to Daniel (Plummer et al., 2014b). The supervisor acknowledging this situation, can become a resource allocator by finding another organization that would reduce or prevent harm to Daniel. After finding this organization, the supervisor would inform and educate Daniel’s mother the existence of the organization and why Daniel would benefit more from the organization than Phoenix House. However, if I were the supervisor, the aspect of this situation that would be most challenging for me is Daniel’s mother insisting that her son stays at Phoenix House after receiving the information that Phoenix House is not the right place for her son. This would be a challenge for me because negative thought might cross my mind. I might start thinking that Daniel’s mother, do not care for her son and Phoenix House is the place she feels she can leave her son for care. But, as a supervisor, I always have a leadership skills. Few of those skills are to monitor, disseminator, liaison, be a spokesperson, be a resource allocator, and negotiate which assist in achieving specific program and managerial goals (Lauffer 2011). One the skills that I would use to proceed, is to be a spokesperson for Daniel. I can do this by informing Daniel’s mother and Daniel’s school, that Daniel did not use or take marijuana cigarette to school. I would inform his mother and school that I know this because of my years of experience working with at-risk youth (Plummer et al., 2014b) and I know when an individual is being trustful. 2nd post: Analyze the supervisor’s role in the Phoenix House case study and identify leadership skills that might help the supervisor resolve the issue. When I examine the role of the supervisor at the Phonex House I first look at the title senior social worker, meaning that she has the knowledge and skills to understand the purpose of the Phonix House with experience in a variety of situations. The supervisor supports a team of 4 social workers and provides support to 2 students who are learning through observation and guidance. The supervisor needs to make sure that each team member understands their responsibilities in helping students with homework, providing counseling individually and in groups, going on field trips, and allowing time for connections through games and activities (Plummer et al., 2014b). The supervisor also gathers information on the student being referred from a variety of sources such as Jim (student intern) and Sarah (counselor) helping to determine if the program is a good fit for the student. Assuming the supervisor has been with the agency long term she would show confidence skills as a leader. When she talks to Daniel’s mother about the appropriateness of the program it would be beneficial to use persuasive reasoning skills (Northouse, 2021). Providing examples of other scenarios similar to her son may help convince the parent to find another source of consequence.Identify which aspect of this situation would be most challenging for you if you were the supervisor.I believe that the mother’s persistence with her son remaining in the program would be challenging for me knowing that it could do more harm than good (Plummer et al., 2014b). Another challenge within the program would be to minimize Daniel’s interactions with the other student who may bully or intimidate him while enrolled causing other emotional concerns and lowering his self-esteem.Explain how you would use leadership skills to proceed if you were the supervisor. Talking with the staff would be the first priority so that we could plan a system of care for Daniel with less disturbance as possible while enrolled in the program. In the meantime my determination to focus on the task of educating Daniel’s mother Lisa would be my next step (Northouse, 2021). I will prepare resources of other community partners that can address Daniel’s suspension. I then would set up a time to meet with Lisa so that she knows I want to support her decision and listen to her concerns. During our conversation, I will be prepared to engage with the intention to offer other ways to provide consequences that may be more effective for her son and prevent adding “harmful influences” (Plummer et al., 2014b).
