Question Answered step-by-step Read the paragraph summary down below and write a paragraph reaction to the content or information. A young woman was brought into the emergency room after tripping during her volleyball match. One of her teammates noticed that she had been struggling with her balance and this was beginning to affect her performance. After arrival, she was diagnosed with impaired balance and began to complain of symptoms of discomfort breathing while laying flat, along with headaches. Upon examination, the patient looks weak and struggles to breathe comfortably. After further tests, the patent’s heart rate is over 100 beats/min along with her breathing that has been abnormally rapid. The ER staff also noted significantly low blood pressure, overall weakness throughout the body, and a constant clearing of the throat.  The patient appears to be suffering from acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy or (AIDP). This autoimmune disease is characterized by its sensory changes and effects on the patient’s respiratory system. This would explain the dizziness and low blood pressure, as not enough oxygen was being taken in forcing the rapid breathing. This disease is also characterized by body weakness, which can explain the limpness in the hands and the overall weakness. Treatment of AIDP usually consists of rest and prescribed drugs however, there isn’t a known cure for the disease. I think that calling the campus pastor to come to the emergency room was a great idea. Not only is the patient going to be upset by her physical condition, she most likely won’t be able to play her sport for quite some time. Having a guiding hand in situations such as these is crucial to making sure our patient doesn’t feel alone and does anything rash. It’s also a benefit to have someone there the patient is comfortable talking with and praying with, in a life-changing situation such as this one.  Health Science Science Nursing SPES 180 Share QuestionEmailCopy link Comments (0)
