Both health education and health promotion must basic on health factors and positive lifestyles. Health education teaches about physical, mental, emotional, and social health. It gives patients awareness to maintain their health, prevent disease, promote and protect their health. It provides a course study that helps patients to learn skills they will use to make healthy choices throughout their lifetime.The nursing process is a systematic problem-solving approach used to identify, prevent and treat actual or potential health problems and promote wellness. Nurses determine the educational needs of their patients through the five steps of the nursing process; assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation (Stone 2017). Nurses make a plan to meet their needs and teach patients how to manage their health problems. A contemporary issue that a family may experience today is the issue of vaccination. Today’s parents are reluctant in vaccinating their children. Nurses/healthcare need to advance more in research and continue to educate patients and individuals on how something such as vaccines can not only benefit them but also others around them, like loved ones. According to a concept called “herd immunity”, “which is when a large group of people gets immunized for a certain pathogen then those who are unable to be vaccinated (some cases of immunocompromised individuals) benefit from being at a lower risk of contracting the pathogen. (Ventola, 2016). The article also discusses that healthcare professionals are strongly urged to educate the public about the importance of vaccination, and how it leads to a decrease in deaths and preventable diseases, as the best way to decrease the number of individuals that are non-compliant with vaccinations.” Another contemporary issue that a lot of American families face is obesity.
