These rights are: right task, right circumstance, right person, right supervision, right direction and communication. In their article “Five Rights of Nursing Delegation”, the authors discuss the components, rights, and a case study example regarding the delegation standards set by the ANA (Barrow & Sharma, 2021).The components of delegation include: responsibility, authority, and accountability. Responsibility refers to the duty to perform nursing interventions safely and correctly. Authority refers to the scope of work a nurse is responsible for, based on his/her state’s nurse practice act. Accountability refers to the liability surrounding patient care. The nurse is liable for all tasks personally performed and those which were delegated. This article gives an example of a new nurse who needs to delegate tasks in order to effectively care for his patients in a timely manner. The nurse applies the Five Rights of Delegation to delegate tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel and also to his charge nurse so that he can assess a patient who has a possibly infiltrated intravenous line.
