Question Answered step-by-step On Monday February 21st,from 10:00a.m. -12:00p.m., The School of... On Monday February 21st, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., The School of Health Professions and Nursing will be conducting a staged motor vehicle accident. This accident is designed to set the stage for student activities in the program for the entire Spring semester, allowing honors students to follow patients as case studies in all of our health disciplines (Emergency Room Care, radiology, rehabilitation, administrative and billing, etc.). In addition, Monday's exercise will serve as a warning of the dangers associated with texting and driving, a useful lesson for nursing students and the broader university as well.  There will be a response by the Nassau County Police Department, along with the Roslyn Fire Companies using lights and sirens. The accident is set to take place in the parking lot behind the Life Sciences building on University Drive and Scholar Court. Actors, makeup, and professional EMT will all be involved in the exercise.All attempts will be made to minimize disruption to traffic flow around the area, to all other courses scheduled at that time and in the days thereafter, and to university staff reporting for work.  Please use caution on the day of the drill.  We recognize the pandemic adds additional anxiety and that this exercise may cause stress for some, both in our school community and beyond, but the University voted that graduating students in the program need the training and exercise to complete their studies.  We have also notified local newspapers and media outlets asking them to notify our neighbors.Public Safety will be on scene to assist with any issues.    Some questions to get us started: I am interested in how we might discuss Plato in relation to the School of Health Professions and Nursing's teaching goals and exercises, at least as evidenced in this example.  What will occur during the class period itself? How does this approach to education compare and contrast with your own educational experiences?  Do you respond well to hands-on learning? Do you learn best working with others in groups, or in more solitary forms of study?More importantly, someone should articulate/explain Plato's theory of education, as detailed in Book VII and Book X.  Where do you see an educational theory hinted at in those readings?  A theory might even exist in what Plato warns against, so speculate and use your imagination.  What does the Nursing class argue about a faith and/or optimism in students' ability to be educated and understand the purpose of the exercise?  Does this relate in any way to Book X's notion of the antidote? What does this experiment suggest about the rest of the student body, faculty and staff on campus that day?   What does the university express about people who live around the campus, especially those who have not received the email but will witness the staged event anyway?  What could happen to eyewitnesses unaware of what's taking place? Any relation to the higher mind vs. lower mind distinction, especially for those entering the field of medicine?
