His lawn mower had exploded. He was concious and had saline soaked drape on his face to cool his burns. Jane, the nurse immediatley took Mr S.S. replied hand and told him her name and that she would be caring for him. “I am going to leave the drape on your face to cool the burns, Your chest is burned and I need to get these clothes off of you. Do you mind if I cut them? Mr. S. replied “Honey, you can do whatever you have to. Jane,went on to tell Mr. S. that she was going to have to draw some bloods, start an IV and the Dr. would be inserting a foley catheter into his bladder because he needs to monitor all the fluids going in and out of his body. Mr. S. jokingly said ,”OK but tell the Doctor to cover me up , I am shy.” Janetold Mr. S. not to worry as she drew the curtains around hi. When ever we are not working on you , you will be covered.She told him that it is only her, another nurse and doctor there.She began to proceed with the procedures as neccasary, explaining everything as she went along.He asked her questions about the extent of the burns.” Hey Jane , what does my face look like?I hope I’m not going to be the ugly duckling” Jane, came to the bedside , took his hand and said,” you have some blisters in your face . I am leaving the wet drape on so it will cool the area. Your eyelids might swell a little but it will go down in a couple of days.We have an excellent plastic surgeon coming in to care for you. He will debride the burns and start cleaning them with a special cream. You should have minimal to no scarring”In a more seious tome , “Well I was just wondering. I have a heavy date with my wife for New Years Eve.”The plastic surgeon was delayed. Jane satayed with Mr. S.She did paper work at the bedside, contacted the family, offered pain meds and ice chips.The drape remained on Mr. S. the entire time. When Jane transfered Mr. S. to the room on the surgical unit She told Mr S that she is going home.The next morning Jane went up to the surgical unit to visit Mr. S.. He was eating breakfast . His face had silvadene cream on it but his eyes were exposed. His lids were swollenbut they were open.
