She wanted to demonstrate to her third-grade students how illogical racism was. Her aim was to have the children in her class experience what it was like to be a person of colour in America. In order to conduct her experiment, she decided to divide the students in class according to the colour of their eyes – blue and brown. On the first day, the blue-eyed children were designated as the superior group: they had privileges, benefitted from preferential treatment, and weren’t allowed to mingle with the inferior brown-eyed students. On the second day, the brown-eyed children were designated as the superior group, and on the third day she had the students stop the experiment and reflect on their experience. What did you learn? Did anything surprise you?     3.
