Mr K is a 65-year-old male who has been admitted with a total knee replacement six days ago. His past medical history includes Type 2 diabetes, obesity and osteoarthritis in both knees. He also has history of a healed left leg venous ulcer, which has left pigmentation from scarring. Mr K is a heavy smoker (two packets of cigarettes per day) and lives alone. His wife who was his main carer passed away six months ago, which impacted Mr K psychosocially.Currently, his surgical wound looks swollen and red, and is hot to touch and inflamed with moderate amount of greenish ooze alongside of the suture line.
