Question Answered step-by-step Migrant workers are a vulnerable population because they are at agreater risk for poorer health outcomes due to a disadvantage in a lack of access to resources and an exposure to multiple risk factors. Living conditions are one characteristic that makes up a vulnerable population because it impacts their health. Some of the working/living conditions that migrant workers experience are lack of clean running water, lack of transportation, inadequate protective equipment, insufficient training, isolation, discrimination, and harassment, food insecurity,  working long hours with little to no breaks, and crowded living conditions. Migrant workers often have an increased risk for injury and illness rates due to carrying and lifting often over uneven ground and exposure to pesticides and other chemicals. Migrant workers often work outdoors and are exposed to environmental factors that put them at an increased risk for respiratory issues like asthma and bronchitis. The government often has difficulty enforcing labor, health, and safety laws in agriculture because few workers complain of the occurring violation. Sometimes workers are threatened by the use of fear tactics in order to stay silent about the unfair working and living conditions. References: Arcury, T. A., & Quandt, S. A. (2011).
