Question Answered step-by-step lookin for a response to the comment with 2 scholarly references I… lookin for a response to the comment with 2 scholarly references I am now aware of some opportunities for further personal growth and application into my practice. The first self-assessment I need help with is “I will make mistakes and will learn from them”. We are all human and to be human is to error, however, it is difficult to admit when we make mistakes, take ownership of those mistakes, and further learn and grow from such mistakes. In our clinic, we emphasize the “no blame” culture, however, mistakes are still viewed as shameful, embarrassing and demoralising events (Milwood, 2015). Mistakes and compromise patient safety and can cause personal anxiety, depression, guilt, and self-doubt (Milwood, 2015). Taking these “mistakes” and learning from personal experiences can only make you a better provider and ensure that similar mistakes will not be made again.Another self-assessment opportunity I discovered was “I will really listen to the answers before asking another question”. For myself, I have the horrible habit of interupting and asking other questions before listening to the prior answer or explanation. This is true in both my professional and personal life. Having proper communication skills forms the foundation for a postive patient-provider relationship and essentially leads to better patient outcomes (Berman & Chutka, 2016). Communication skills does not include only talking, but also to listening to others and acknowleding nonverbal communication (Berman & Chutka, 2016). This is something that I continue to work on a daily basis and mastering this skill, will help me to be a better provider, friend, and mother. ama 1 Health Science Science Nursing Share QuestionEmailCopy link Comments (0)
