Discuss the idea of “locus of control,” first described by Rotter and then further developed by other psychologists.
Describe this theory, including what is meant by an “internal” vs. “external” locus of control.
After describing the theory, explain whether you feel that you tend towards an internal or external locus of control, and why. If you feel that you do not tend to lean more heavily towards one over the other, that is okay, too. Whatever conclusion you reach, use two examples from your life to support your claim. For example, if you feel that bad luck follows you around, this would be evidence of an external locus of control (because the misfortune is seen as being due to “bad luck,” which is something that is outside of your control).
