Question Answered step-by-step Life is all about choices. Choices made by an individual lay the steppingstonesfor the direction in which their life goes. Some of those choices can be positive and some negative. The way an individual decides to live their life and the habits they develop is a choice. Research has shown that cancer is the “second most common cause of death in Western countries” (Roos et al., 2019) and “as life expectancy increases, cancer incidence increases” (Roos et al., 2019). I feel that an insurer or employer should have the ability to obtain personal information pertaining to an individual’s lifestyle or habits relating to their cancer risk. One major lifestyle habit that increases risk of developing cancer is smoking cigarettes. Research has shown “tobacco is the most significant cause of preventable death in the U.S.” (Apata et al., 2019). An employer should have the ability to know whether or not an employee smokes cigarettes due to the fact that “smoking causes 20% of all cancer mortality” (Roos et al., 2019) and therefore a company offering benefits will most likely have to cover treatment for a an individual that smokes later on in life. Developing programs like smoking cessation classes, free gym memberships, and providing small incentives for doing so would be beneficial to the employer as well as the employee. It is known that “cancer incidence could be halved in industrialized countries by changing key lifestyle habits” (Roos et al., 2019). References  Apata, J., Sheikhattari, P., Bleich, L., Kamanger, F., O’Keefe, A.
