Researcher use approximately 50 students divided evenly between male and female. They would be broken up into 5 teams along with a mentor that would further interact with the participants. This would require us to follow them all the way to high school to fully evaluate our program. Once we select our participants we would begin to include smoking and substance abuse awareness during their health class setting aside Fridays to heavily focus on our program. Our one year would begin during the start of 7th grade and end at the beginning of 8th. In order for us to educate on the danger of smoking we would focus on presentations, guest speakers, weekly quizzes, and overall views the students have on smoking. All 12 months would consist of a mixture of quizzes, presentations, and guest speakers. The students would be evaluated at the start, middle and end of the year to monitor the changes they have throughout our one year program. In order for this to get supported we would choose a school at high risk for substance use and present our plan to the school board or principal using Big Brother Big Sister as inspiration for our program.
