In reviewing the various concepts since being in this course, I feel that I now have a better understanding of various disorders for example; Initially, when I would use the term antisocial from my understanding It meant someone who was against socializing. Now I know that the correct term used for someone who’s against socializing is referred to as asocial and someone with an antisocial disorder is the total opposite. I now know that someone who has an antisocial disorder lacks remorse with a disregard for responsibility and often only thinks of themselves. In addition to disorders, I am now aware that patients are treated based on the positive versus the negative symptoms, I thought if there were positive symptoms why would treatment be needed but I know now that positive symptoms are those that should not be present such as hallucinations or delusions and the goal of treatment is to take away such symptoms and negative symptoms are the lack of something that should be present and treatment is required for both.
