Question Answered step-by-step I work in a large flagship retail store in Yorkdale mall and I have… I work in a large flagship retail store in Yorkdale mall and I have been working there for 2 years. An ethical dilemma I have faced as an individual has been witnessing my co workers committing fraud. The incident occurred throughout the summer, when employee’s discounts were exploited without their knowledge. I was a new cashier at that time and as a cashier I have the ability to make employee sales. In order to make an employee sale, the individual would have to provide me with their employee number and we can verify their names with a piece of ID. However, my fellow cashier’s and I knew majority of the people working in the store and we would rarely ask for ID. One day, my friend asked me to see how much is left over on her discount, she gave me her number and I told her the remaining amount. She was a little surprised that she spent that much but she did not question it. A week later, I decided to check her discount again, with her consent, and it was much lower than last time. I asked her if she bought anything and she said no. She decided to not say anything about it because she rarely uses her discount and it was not a big deal to her if someone else used it. However, during one of my shifts, I overheard these two co-workers, who were known for causing a lot of trouble in the workplace, use another cashier’s discount and claim that they had her permission. They had spent over $1000 worth of items and drained her discount for the remainder of the year. After hearing about this, I decided to tell my manager about what I saw and they said they will look into it and take any action needed.  ConsiderSituational Influences: Are outside pressures (such as conformity to group opinion, obedience to authority) or internal biases affecting your decision-making?Alternative Actions: Have you brainstormed multiple solutions and avoided a particular preconceived path?Additional Guidance: Have you sought the independent, objective assessment of other parties to gain additional perspective?ActBy Making a Decision: The specific action required may vary based on the individual aspects of the situation.
