Question Answered step-by-step I need a response to this discussion An authentic role problem that… I need a response to this discussion An authentic role problem that I personally relate to and have been impacted by is role overload. The American Testing Institute describes this problem as, “More responsibility and roles than are manageable.” (p. 185) As a nursing student I heavily identify with this issue. Finding a balance between studying for multiple hard classes, maintaining a social life, and still making time for yourself is a hard thing to do. Even if accomplished, it is almost impossible to avoid burnout. An intervention that could help overcome the stress of overload could be identifying key contributors. Recognize what causes the most stress and what is a priority. For me, obviously nursing school is my biggest priority. Even though I delegate plenty of time to studying, I often overwork myself and do not plan breaks. Not planning breaks causes me to get overwhelmed and not focus on what I am learning. Avoiding this can be implementing The Pomodoro Method. The Pomodoro method is studying for 30 minutes straight and then taking a 10 minute break, and then completing this cycle until work is finished. This can reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed with work. Another intervention to reduce role overload is delegating tasks. In a healthcare setting this can be delegating specific tasks to supportive nursing roles, such as a CNA or LVN. For me personally, I cannot delegate my workload onto others. So this would mean delegating my time appropriately. Instead of focusing and stressing on school work each weekend, I can make time to go to the gym with a friend. That would take care of my social and personal need. If I really needed to study, I could invite a friend to study with me, taking care of my educational and social need. Using my time wisely to complete two of my needs at once can help save time without focusing on one task at a time.  Health Science Science Nursing NURS MISC Share QuestionEmailCopy link Comments (0)
