Question Answered step-by-step I had a question on how does the US Navy support the joint… I had a question on how does the US Navy support the joint community and the capabilities that they bring to the fight. Below is my draft response but I wanted to know if you have any feedback. The Navy supports the joint community by providing strike resources from the air, surface, subsurface, special forces, and cyber any day/night in any climate from the sea. The Navy brings Strike Groups led by a Joint Forces Maritime Component Commander that have the ability to destroy or neutralize any enemy strategic/tactical targets ashore. Strike Groups sail the seas with little dependence required and include Carrier, Expeditionary and Surface. A Carrier Strike Group consists of an aircraft carrier, carrier air wing, submarines and surface ships. The capability is flexible and provides heavy capabilities. An Expeditionary Strike Group provides a joint force commander a flexible range of options which consists of amphibious landing assault ships, (LHD/LHA, LPD,LSD), and cruise missiles able to attack targets in the littorals or ashore. The Navy transports the USMC assets on these ships that also provide land and aviation capabilities ashore. The ESG is capable of working independently in the littorals or open sea areas. Surface Strike Group consists of three ships at sea and can provide fire support from the sea base to allies and joint forces ashore and is designed to work independently or with other forces. The SSG can support crisis response in a non-permissive environment, deterrence and contingency response, sea control and strike power and can support forces afloat and ashore. Capabilities include logistics, maritime civic affairs, mine warfare, submarine groups, and maritime patrol aircraft.
