Question I find that I have a growth mindset. In my opinion, I wasn’t born… I find that I have a growth mindset. In my opinion, I wasn’t born with any “natural talent,” and I have always had to work hard at something to get good at it. There have been so many things that I was bad at in the past that I am good at now. I may be a slow reader, but I get it done. I may not be good at APA formatting now, but I will get there. I like how at the end of the video he argued that we should instead say to ourselves, “I can’t do it- yet.” This is the mindset I have learned to have when faced with new and challenging material. One area I like to apply growth mindset is in the gym. I was never into sports or anything when I was younger but now as an adult, I have been getting into strength training, muscle growth, dieting, and learning Muay Thai with my husband. When I first walked into the gym, I felt so intimidated, but I have been learning new things every week and getting better and better. Keeping this growth mindset will help me continue to grow in this area of my life- health and fitness. Another area I like to apply growth mindset is in my academics, especially with classes that I know little about. In my past academics, I had never incorporated learning about God. Now here at LAPU I am taking two bible classes. Keeping a growth mindset allows me to prosper in these classes. I could have had a fixed mindset such as, “I know close to nothing about the bible, so I’ll surely perform poorly,” but instead keeping a growth mindset, “I don’t know a lot about the bible yet, but I am excited to learn,” has helped me perform well and learn a lot. This has also strengthened my growth spiritually. I have a growth mindset in my life but in times that I may get discouraged or fall into a fixed mindset I can remind myself that the qualities that I am looking for/lacking can be developed if I work harder, as discussed in the video. Keeping this mindset will surely be important in my future career as a teacher as well. I will aim to applaud my future students’ success with “growth mindset praise” so not to discourage them into thinking that they cannot achieve a goal if they are not inherently “good at it.” Arts & Humanities English ENGLISH 101 Share QuestionEmailCopy link Comments (0)
