Question Answered step-by-step I am writing a paper on Daniel M. Oppenheimer’s satirical… I am writing a paper on Daniel M. Oppenheimer’s satirical study “Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Necessity: Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly.” My goal is to give a more serious interpretation of his findings and explain the ramification of people knowingly or unknowingly misusing words. The essay is complete; save for the introduction, it’s incoherent and too short.  Intro:Daniel M. Oppenheimer is a professor of psychology who specializes in cognitive psychology, perceptual fluency, and how humans perceive randomness. In 2005 Oppenheimer along with his confederates, published a lighthearted study titled “Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Necessity: Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly”; which determined that people prefer clarity over complexity when communicating. This study won the Ig Noble Prize in literature; the award’s name is a pun on the Nobel Prize, which it parodies, and on the word ignoble (not noble). The satirical prize’s stated goal is to “honor achievements that make people laugh, then make them think.” Even though this study was not meant to be taken seriously, the issues addressed deserve serious consideration.  Arts & Humanities Writing ENGL 402 Share QuestionEmailCopy link Comments (0)
