Consider the determinants… How would you reply to the below forum?Consider the determinants of health in your assessment of family health promotion. What types of factors would you explore with the family? How do the determinants of health relate to the health of the family?A scenario in which families work together to assist the whole family fosters family health (Kaakinen et al., 2018). As per Kaakinen et al., (2018), A family health nurse promotes family health and helps the family in reaching, improving, and maintaining the person’s and family’s health and wellbeing. Encouraging the family as well as its members to participate in activities that promote wellbeing encourages families to develop healthy lifestyles, which can be passed down from generation to generation (Kaakinen et al., 2018). As per World Health Organisation (WHO) (2017), Individuals’ and groups’ health is influenced by a variety of factors. The conditions and environment in which people live determine whether or not they are healthy; where we reside, the quality of our environment, genetics, our education and income level, and our relationships with family and friends all have a significant influence on our health while more widely considered factors like accessibility and use of healthcare also have a lesser effect (WHO, 2017). The health determinants that apply to my family are where we reside and education and income level. Immigrants are healthier than Canada’s general population when they first arrive, but this effect fades over time (Goshala et al., 2011). This was a significant difference I noticed when we first immigrated here; our income improve dramatically so does our access to food. However, having access to new food types, we made a lot of unhealthy choices. Because the marketing of food here is different from back home and unhealthy food choices are being pushed on through ads and sales at grocery stores. Overtime our weight increased, and we decided to manage our weight and eat healthier. We follow the Canada food guide for recommendations and find more nutritious food choices. Also, the level of physical activity people get in Canada is way less compare to back home. Maybe because it warm year-round so we can walk places and go out a lot more. Only 16 percent of Canadian adults get the recommended amount of physical activity, as per Statistics Canada; this means that 84 percent of the adult population is insufficiently active (Faulkner, n.d.). Generally, immigrants tend to be healthier than native-born Canadians, owing to their ability to move successfully, and often their families, from one country to another, both physically and psychologically (Goshala et al., 2011).You are at the end of the course after reviewing all the units, participating in the discussions, completing the readings and learning activities, and submitting your assignments. How would you describe family health promotion and family nursing practice to a colleague? What elements would you include in your description? This course has taught me a tremendous amount of information about family nursing, the aspects of it, and its significance in nursing; that I would recommend to my coworkers, family, and friends. It showed the importance of family in nursing and different models to incorporate family as part of the health care team. Family health promotion is when a family works collectively to improve and maintain the social, mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing of its members (Kaakinen et al., 2018). This is indeed critical that I reiterate to my colleagues that this will improve the quality of care for clients, including families in my nursing assessments. Health promotion strategies are initiatives which a household should engage in to enhance their family unit, as well as they are just as important in times of illness or distress, not only in periods of good health (Kaakinen et al., 2018).  Also, implementing five important areas of action in health promotion will improve the families’ overall health in society (WHO, 2017). The family nursing strategy emphasizes the progression of family wellness as an entity, as well as the advocacy of families to follow and incorporate health promotion throughout one’s daily lives to improve general wellness (Kaakinen et al., 2018). I will illustrate different theoretical frameworks which encompass family nursing, which help mould our decisions whenever it relates to evaluating and promoting family wellbeing to others to explain the meaning of family health promotion is to others. Although we covered this earlier in the course, genomap and ecomap are essential tools for different settings. Since they provide health care workers with visual diagrams of the most recent family’s history and condition that could have a positive or negative impact on the family (Kaakinen et al., 2018). Intervention techniques and family improvement strategies are guided by the information derived from using an ecomap and genogram (Kaakinen et al., 2018).
