Question Answered step-by-step How does the 2 below statements relate to this day in age. ( Linnea… How does the 2 below statements relate to this day in age. (Linnea )As humans we need to belong, whether it be to a family, a group, friends, we have to belong in order to be emotionally stable. Even criminals need to belong, whether it be with other criminals or even gangs. I belong to my family, and I belong to my society. I try to do things to help others. I belong to the company I work with as well; I have a position at the company that is vital to making the company run. We are connected through school and even though it is online, we belong to a university that counts on us to participate. I am a member of a remote company, and my group/team works very well together to run the company successfully. There are prospects outside the community I work in that we call daily to set meetings. People are identified inside the community because they are employees of the company whereas those outside the company do not know how it is run and what goes into the company, even the prospects we call daily. I have many benefits belongings to this group because it is a successful and tight knit company. The benefits are great on the inside when you become part of this job. (Yvette )In social psychology, the need to belong is an intrinsic motivation to affiliate with others and socially accepted (Schneider & Kwan, 2013). Everyone has a sense of needing to belong, even if you do not believe that it is self-conscious action. For me I can remember being in elementary school and how badly I wanted to join the cheer team because, I felt that I would fit in better and have more friends. Now as an adult my longing to belong is not as necessary as it was when I was young, but I do still feel like I like to belong in certain ways. In my neighborhood, we have a group called the Sisterhood of the Traveling spirits, which I am part of, and you must be invited by one of the administrators to belong. This group has helped me tremendously, because these are women from all diverse backgrounds, cultures, and career fields. The group model is to sprinkle a stranger or even someone in the group with gifts to help lift their spirits or if they need something that they might not be able to get. If you are in the group, it benefits you because they can help you with resources and they are a good support system. The needing to belong can be a good thing, if you are not building your life around other’s opinions and perceptions of you. I like to use Abraham Maslow theory of self-actualizing meaning people are self-aware care less about others’ opinions and become more interested in fulfilling their own potential. Never forget while wanting to belong, you cannot lose your true self identity. Psychology Social Science Social Psychology PSYCH 614 Share QuestionEmailCopy link Comments (0)
