How do I write my reflection/metacommentary based on my essay?…
Question Answered step-by-step How do I write my reflection/metacommentary based on my essay?… How do I write my reflection/metacommentary based on my essay?Below are some guiding questions to consider in your reflection/metacommentary (if writing satire). What is your essay’s thesis? Why did you choose this particular focus? What tone did you evoke?Be sure to highlight specific areas that provoke certain feelings or emotions. What image(s) did you create in your reader’s mind? Here’s the essay I wrote below: The world is experiencing a dramatic increase in population which is causing a negative fallout of the Earth. This problem that is arising from an overpopulation of people could rapidly wipe out all mankind because it would become necessary for resources to keep expanding as more people kept inhabiting the Earth. Without any direct solutions for how to control the expansion of the human population, 11 billion people will occupy Earth by the year 2060. According to the book The Population Bomb Paul R. Ehrlich says, “Earth can only capacitate up to 10 billion people.” In only a couple years, Earth will have surpassed this number. This means the amount of people populating will lead to environmental degradation. This is despite the minimal efforts being made to cater for the expected climate change. Little efforts too are being made to cater for the expected increased population. Have we run out of our senses? After discovering James Flynn’s work which he named the Flynn Effect, he spoke of discovering a phenomenon where humans’ intelligence rose at 3 IQ points per decade in the 20th century. However, this study of IQ scores has shown to dramatically have gone down. The book titled The Energy Journal by Gunn and Hain Oelgeschlager shares how the Ragnar Frisch Centre for Economic Research says, “Of the 730,000 IQ scores evaluated, people born during the mid-1970’s had a higher IQ score than those of later ages resulting in a drastic decline per generation.” This decline is evidence that we must strengthen our knowledge and learn new ways to protect this expansion on the planet. The abounding social media news and popular text messaging our society read into is much more than humans were reading in the 1970’s, but it’s a different type of reading where there’s a different truth behind every story. A developmental psychologist named Maryanne Wolf in her journal The Reading Brain in a Digital World says, “We are not only what we read, we are how we read.” This is because when we read things society looks into the opinions of ourselves and others to form a connection instead of looking into evidence to support the truth. Our capacity to examine what we’re reading and make deep mental connections without distractions shows how emotionally disengaged we are from the true facts. Using more critical thinking to solve drastic problems is crucial. Social world through technology and the internet provides an innumerable amount of information, although it is expected with so much provided to us to become more advanced, but unfortunately the opposite is occurring. The attention span has reduced significantly causing us to store even less information than we used to be able to before so much technology advancements. Although books and journals provide access to lots of information with credentials to strengthen the content that is provided, we still turn to technology. With technology we can gather information at any time in nearly a fraction of a second. Technology provides us with the opportunity to read extensively, but instead we turn to something we can skim through. Or, we can look anything up on safari or google and assume anything we read must be true because it’s on the internet. Technology has made it easy for information to get twisted or lost because of how easy it is to post something and make it seem true. With everything I have said, I think I have come up with the most positive and productive solution to helping humans. We need to focus on providing an education to aid and deliver a critical thinking test that would focus on saving the planet. Those who pass the test can continue onto the next grade, but those who score below will have to do further schooling to train their brains to think more “outside of the box”. Every student would be provided a few hours to complete the critical thinking test. Everything would be handwritten to encourage cognitive thinking. Students would be tested on basic knowledge such as history, science, math, language arts, and traditional environmental knowledge. The schools would provide alternative schools if students needed more support in learning, and the government would take action if there was no hope and enforce people with too small an IQ to not be able to produce babies. This would resolve so much because it would enforce so many people to stop producing children and overall reduce the amount of people on the planet. It would also force students to work even harder in school and use their brains more and expand their intellectual knowledge. This would create a survival of the fittest way of life which would rule out those who are not so smart enough and also create a stronger pool of smarter humans that hopefully would make way for greater changes to saving the Earth and the population of humanity. Earth has no room for unintelligent humans. Therefore, this solution is the best way to keep humans living on Earth. No other alternative solutions such as allowing only one child per household, promoting birth control and abortions, forcing men to have visectomys, forcing women to get their tubes tied, only teaching students about overpopulation awareness at schools, removing the ability to have large families, or killing people off that aren’t smart enough wouldn’t fix our problems because it would only create total panic and chaos. The only way to fix overpopulation on this Earth is to figure out how to control it in a positive way.
