My Godmother considers medical technology to be her most important aspect of technology. When asked about any aspect of technology that has altered her thinking, she informed me that healthcare technology had changed her perception regarding the world, overall. According to her, there was a time when there were no advanced machines to detect infections, people would easily die. However, today, technology has made it easy to undertake tests and determine what a patient is suffering from. Similarly, I also have high regard for medical technology. I have witnessed people suffer from fatal conditions such as cancer and other illnesses. However, medical inventions such as chemotherapy and medication have saved their lives and have been able to live longer than they would without such treatment. Therefore, I hold a similar view to my Godmother that medical technology has been among the most remarkable technological inventions.  One of the most relevant chapters to our technological experience is titled “Beautiful Monster: Life with a Prosthetic limb (Rapp 98).” During this chapter, the writer explains cyborgs, people who are half-human and half machine. As mentioned by the writer, people have always been there since wars, accidents, and aging began. The writer points out that artificial organs have been instrumental in assisting people live regular lives even after cases like accidents (Rapp 100). Additionally, the writer informs us that artificial legs made of iron, which have recently been incorporated with computers that work with a person’s brain to coordinate movement. The use of prosthetic limbs that rely on computers to function indicates the extent to which technological healthcare has truly advanced. Such technology is useful globally, regardless of gender, racial, or ethnic identification. However, the rate at which those developments are incorporated depends on one’s generation. For example, generation Xers have a conservative culture and would be reluctant to accept prosthetic limbs. Despite the generation embracing technology, they are very skeptical of many of the interventions. On the other hand, millennials are more open to embracing these technological advancements.
