Thanks    In this modern day, we often hear people refer to the First Amendment – Freedom of Speech. One of the most important principle was many of generation follow. It’s allow every citizen receive this right as well as protect from those who threaten limit of speech. However, we must understand  that the First Amendment is like a weapon to protect it citizen from dictator, but if they abuse it, it will have consequences to public interest. That is why many court case is more important, because they act and keep to help the First Amendment more strongly, specifically of freedom of speech.. The first amendment was one of the key amendments of the Bill of Rights. Ratified on December 15, 1791, the first amendment guaranteed the right to free speech, religion, assembly, press, and the right to petition. The right to free speech allows individuals to openly express their-opinion on any topic and in a non-violent manor. This led to many of the situation in the modern day when citizens could criticize the government without being afraid of prosecution.  One of important landmark case is.Tinker V. Demoines. Tinker V. Demoines is perhaps one to the most prominent landmark cases to have occurred. The case involved a group of student who, in order to protest the Vietnam war. The school administrators took solution  to try to prevent the students from being able to silently protest by wearing armbands. When the students arrived refused to remove the armbands they were suspended until they came back to school without the armband. In the previously chapter of English 4, we know that the public school only have power to limit freedom speech of student if they were agains tthe education mission environment. However, the form of symbolic speech was deemed non-disruptive and the supreme court upheld the students right to free speech 7-2.  Suppression of free speech is an ever important  issue and there is an array of court cases that have happened recently to show this. For example, Heffernan V. City of Paterson in which Heffernan, a police officer, was seen picking up a political sign advocating for the candidate running against the incumbent. He was then demoted from his current position. The case was ruled in favor of Heffernan, 6-2. Another example of a contemporary court case is ReedV. Town of Gilbert. In this case the town placed restrictions of the size a sign could be if it was advocating for religious purpose, as well as the length of time the sign could be displayed. However, the town place no regulation on political sign. The court ruled in the like of Reed, stating their constitutional right to free speech had been violated. The First Amendment was the symbol of the United State about the freedom of speech, religios and press.
