Defining Worldview
This course starts with a discussion of worldview because his worldview which determines the flow of
society in the future public policy and politics. A worldview is the intellectual, emotional, and even
spiritual framework by which we apprehend reality and assign meaning to life. The world you could be
considered like a telescope or magnifying glass because it helps you and I see the world. But it’s more
than that. It’s like a framework that determines how we make sense of life. God, truth values the
meaning of life or relationships with others. We interpret everything in life with this worldview
framework. This course has introduced you to a lot of philosophical terms related to worldview. Terms
like cosmology, axiology, ontology, teleology, and epistomology. Focusing on terms like this can feel a
bit overwhelming. In doing so may seem irrelevant to a study of the rough and tumble world of
government, politics and even just normal life. But we will see that in fact these terms have everything
to do with those parts of our lives. Indeed, because these terms represent the key portions of a
worldview, they have everything to do with every aspect of our lives, including government and politics.
Therefore, it will be helpful to take a look at these terms more closely. We will do so in a very concrete
way. Let’s suppose that a worldview is like a home in which we live. Everything we believe about the
meaning of life provides a security and structure upon which we approach our lives and assign meaning
to everything we experience and interact with in life. But how do we know our worldview home is
actually sound and strong enough to endure the uncertainties and storms of life. That is why those
worldview terms we mentioned earlier. So handy. To make that clear, pretend for a moment that you
are visiting someone’s home for the first time. As you walk in the door, what the first thing you notice?
Perhaps genomes, the furniture or the decor. Perhaps you look at how many rooms the house has and
the floor plan. But if so, you’d be overlooking the most important features of the home in terms of its
durability and strength, the foundation of the home, in the framework of the home. Why did you
overlook these things? Because they are unseen and therefore taken for granted. So it is with our
worldview homes, the most important aspects of what comprises a worldview. That is the most
important presuppositions that we hold about life. Who we are in meeting itself often go unexamined
because they are so foundational to who we are. We barely even notice them. And so this course begins
by getting you to think about the foundation and framework of your worldview home. So that you can in
turn be better equipped to understand the proper role of government, political activity in the meaning
of life itself.
Your Worldview
Now that you’ve taken a try in the world you construction business, Let’s look more closely at the proper
way to build a worldview home. The first task in doing so as putting all those philosophical terms in our
world you home metaphor. So let’s get started. First is the word cosmology, which pertains the study of
the universe and ultimate causes. In other words, cosmology is related to the question of how we got
here. This in turn points to the most basic of all worldview presuppositions what we believe about God.
In turn, what we believe about God as the foundation for our worldview whom? This is true even for
atheists choosing. And 15 and only a physical universe is the foundation of one’s worldview. Home limits
the building options for the framework of a home in indeed everything else in it. And now let’s focus on
the framework of your worldview home. The framework consists the following components. What you
believe about the nature of truth, epistemology, what you believe about the nature of good and evil,
axiology, and what you believe about who we are as human beings, what our ultimate purposes and
whether or not we have free will. Teleology and ontology respectively. In other words, what we believe
about God as the foundational for whom determines and supports what we believe about truth, values.
We are as humans. In turn, these foundational framework will do presuppositions impact what we
believe about in our approach, everything else in life. Now we can come to the point of realizing that
there are really only three options available when laying a foundation for a worldview home. First, you
can go the route of atheism and assume that there is only a physical universe. Other worldviews believe
that God is an impersonal, mysterious force that resides throughout the entire universe and in each one
of us, which is more in keeping with an Eastern miscible perspective. Some religious worldviews believe
that God exists and that easy. They’re very loving and forgiving over a just and harsh. We’ll do you mean
wireless predicated upon the foundational belief that God is an internal personal creator being who
created everything. The scholars relational, as well as perfectly just and loving. These are the basic
options for the foundation of any worldview home that you might build. In other words, these are the
basic building materials that you can use to lay the foundation of your worldview home. From there, you
can start building the framework of your worldview home, meaning you can start to find more precisely
what you believe about truth, Values and humanity. First, we’ll start with what you believe about truth.
Some will just say that there is no truth, that everything is relative. Or the worldview say that the truth is
absolute in unchanging. Another framework category of any worldview focuses on what people believe
about good and evil. Against some worldviews believe that good and evil are relative terms determined
only by personal or cultural preference. Other worldviews believe that good and evil are absolute and
timeless ideas that transcend personal preference, time period, or cultural boundaries. The third
framework category that each world use built upon is what we believe about humanity and individuality.
Some worldviews believe that we humans have no free will or meaning beyond just our own temporary
existence in a meaningless universe. Others believe that the best we humans can do is get over
ourselves by escaping self-absorption. We do this by finding rest in the more general cosmic
consciousness that transcends the petty concerns of mere mortals. The Biblical worldview believes that
man is made in God’s image and has an eternal destiny. And that the choices we make in this life have
eternal implications for good and evil. In the coming simulation, you will see that what you choose for
the foundation of your worldview home will impact the framework of your home and those three critical
areas, truth values, you in individuality and purpose. In turn, how those three areas are constructed will
impact the rooms of your roles. You hone, your perspectives on your career, relationships, church and
life in general. And of course, for our purposes, your understanding of government, economics and
politics will all be impacted by your worldview.
