Question Answered step-by-step Discuss the current health policy to support the nursing shortage,… Discuss the current health policy to support the nursing shortage, physician shortage, and rural health. As a legislator, how would you propose to negotiate to support the needs of the country?here is a sample answer use different references please thank you o address the nursing shortage, there are different policies in place currently. A critical policy is the Education initiative to increase the number of baccalaureate-prepared nurses to 80% and double the number of doctoral-prepared nurses. The current percent of baccalaureate nurses is 64.2% (AACN, 2020). As a legislator, to support the needs of the country, I would negotiate by presenting facts of the nursing shortage such as current and projected shortage indicators (such as expectancy of increased RN workforce), contributing factors impacting the nursing shortage (ex: the enrollment number for nursing students isn’t meeting the projected demands for RN and APRN shortages), and the impact of nurse staffing on patient care (there are numerous studies drawing the connection between appropriate levels of nurse staffing and safe patient care) (AACN, 2020). Going deeper in to each of these issues, I would discuss the details of each factor (listed by the AACN), such as:1) there is a shortage of nursing school faculty2) a significant number of nurses will be retiring in the near future3) changing demographics demand for more nurses4) insufficient staffing of nurses creates a stressful work environment for nurses, lowering their job satisfaction and triggering nurses to leave the fieldThere are many more statistics on various effects of the nursing shortage, affecting the lives of nurses, patients, and communities. From a personal standpoint, proper staffing and management of this in hospitals is critical, as I have experienced this in my area of work. This definitely could also be an important area of focus moving forward. Thank you.References: AACN. (2020, September). Fact sheet: nursing shortage. American association of colleges of nursing.
