How will you use these steps in your own advocacy work?#1 Collapse Mission of the Social Work Profession There are a few ways my social change project upholds the mission of the social work profession. The National Association of Social Workers (2021) lists service under the code of ethic section. This means that it is the social workers primary goal to address the needs of the people and help to solve social issues. My social change project was about adolescents who experience substance abuse and helping to reduce this issue. Another value under the social workers code of ethics is social justice. This means social workers look to pursue social change for vulnerable groups of people. My topic of helping young people get resources and other help to address their substance abuse issues falls under this category. Areas of Improvement One value that was less evident in my social change project was the importance of human relationships or working with the people as partners to get the best possible treatment. In my project there is not much about working with adolescents, more about finding resources for them and helping adjust policies that fit them. In the future I will incorporate working with these clients to help decide what is the best possible way to make or adjust policies that address their issues. Also, in the future I will continue to keep all the social worker values in mind when advocating for clients. It is important to keep these in mind in order to provide the best service possible, so you are addressing their needs correctly and thoroughly. References:National Association of Social Workers.
