She grew up in San Fernando in a home with both parents, grandparents and siblings. Dawn was always a good student, and always performed well in exams. Despite this Dawn always felt that she was stupid and ugly. Dawn had an older brother who always told her how stupid she was, and Dawn believed him. Dawn also thought that she was ugly because her brother also always told her that she was ugly. Dawn’s mother often berated her and she felt that she could never get anything right. Dawn never once looked into her mother’s eyes and saw love. She only ever saw contempt when looking into her mother’s eyes. Dawn always wanted someone to love her, but she had never been able to build close friendships or have her romantic love interests reciprocate her feelings. Whenever a man shows any interest in Dawn, she “runs away” because she feels unlovable. She often thinks “who will love me?” Dawn began to study for a degree in engineering at The UWI, one year ago. She generally passes her exams but she realized that she is becoming more and more “nervous” whenever she is in class. In two of her classes, she has to do weekly presentations. These presentations ae so stressful for Dawn, that she is thinking of dropping out. She is constantly afraid, and fears that her class mates will laugh at her during presentations, or that the lecturer will find something wrong with her presentations. For days leading up these presentations, she can barely concentrate, and her shoulders and neck feel tight and tense. For most of her life, Dawn has also felt sad and alone. One of her first memories, is a feeling of loneliness. She wonders if she will ever find happiness.
