Studies:  M.G., is a baby female, 1-day old, delivered via normal spontaneous vaginal delivery to a 25-year-old G1P0 syphilis non-reactive, group B strep (GBS) negative, rubella immune, hepatitis B surface antigen negative mother with early preeclampsia and thrombocytopenia (platelet count 80,000). The chest x-ray is rotated with fluid in the right fissure, diffuse streakiness on the left, and a normal cardiac silhouette. CBG (capillary blood gas) pH 7.31, pCO2 43, pO2 44, BE-4. CSF: 2430 RBCs, 20 WBCs, 1% PMN, 17% lymph, 82% monos, glucose 39, protein 133, gram stain shows no organisms.

Nurses are held to higher educational and moral standards, now more than ever. They have been granted the ability to advance in their practice as healthcare proponents, even with the introduction of being able to treat and diagnose patients as providers. With that being said, the previous requirements to becoming a nurse would surely have been adequate for past times in history, but they are not representative of nursing today, in my opinion.In the "International Journal of Nursing Education and Research", the author explores the criteria for what makes an occupation a profession (Vandali, 2017). A prospective nurse cannot practice as a full-fledged nurse without proper licensure that meets state and federal regulations. I feel like that fact alone speaks volumes to the fact that nursing is a profession. Furthermore, the article expounds upon a profession being constituted by the demand it has in society as well.
