Scenario:
You are a Certified Purchasing Professional who is charged with ensuring that your (private or public sector) organization
accomplishes the “Five Rights” of procurement: The RIGHT QUALITY; The RIGHT QUANTITY; From the RIGHT
SOURCE; At the RIGHT TIME; At the RIGHT PRICE. You have been entrusted with the organizational and personal
responsibility of adhering with all purchasing policies, procedures, laws and ethical standards.
Your organization has a centralized purchasing structure with the sole authority for contracting. The procurement team that
you lead serves several different departments with a variety of sourcing needs. You may decide what specific type of
organization you have joined; its size; whether or not the organization is “real” or imaginary; whether it is a private sector
company or a public (government) agency.
Instructions & Expectations:
You must demonstrate how each aspect of the Purchasing Process will be handled by your organization based on the type of
product or service chosen to be procured.
Introduce to the audience to the type of organization you work for and what it does.
What is your role and what are your responsibilities in the organization? What does it mean to be a “Certified Purchasing
Professional? Why is it an important designation?
Provide background on what you have been tasked with purchasing for your organization and why is it needed.
Succinctly identify and describe each element of the “purchasing process” and their connection with the “5-Rights” of
purchasing.
Describe in detail how each phase of the purchasing process was handled while procuring the specific product and/or
services that your organization required.
First, you must choose a specific, product, service, or construction project for your Capstone.
You must complete a rough draft to be submitted via email to instructor; delivered as if you are providing a presentation to an
executive leadership team at the organization you have chosen.
The final project will be due the last week of class.
Final Research Project is worth 100 points.
Total Point Value 100 Points out of a total 1000 Points = 10% of your course grade.
