Question CHCCCS016 – Respond to client needs Jan and Steve present to a community service, where you work, to discuss their concerns. Steve is an Accountant but now is unable to work due to his diabetes and related health issues, which now includes depression. Steve is drinking against the advice of his GP and has been spending a lot of time and money at the pub with his friends, playing pool and drinking. Jan is concerned about the cost of Steve’s nights out and his health, but also says it may help his depression. They used to go on holidays with the boys but now that there are financial problems, it has been over a year since they took a family holiday. Jan and Steve both agree they are arguing a lot and worried about the impact this might be having on the boys.Their oldest son Jake, (16) has been involved in several fights at school and has recently been suspended. He is moody and argumentative and his parents suspect he has started drinking alcohol and experimenting with drugs. He is rude and has started swearing at Jan whenever she tries to discipline him. It usually ends up in a screaming match between them.Their youngest son Mason, (13) is falling behind at school and Jan is concerned that he is not academically keeping up with his peers. He says he is bullied at school and called “dumb” because he can’t keep up with the school work. He finds it difficult to make friends because he is quite shy, but wants to start doing some sport or after school activities. He has recently been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.1.
