She works as a massage therapist but is interested in pursuing a career as a nurse. She is very intelligent and achieved high grades in school when she attended. Sarah has one sister who is two years younger than her. At the age of 10 years, Sarah’s mother left the family. She simply told her children she would be back but she never returned. Sarah was raised by her father who she was very close to but there were times she longed for her mother. She needed her mother especially during puberty and while attending High School. Sarah reunited with her mother in adulthood and sometimes visits her mother but their relationship has always been strained. Her mother remarried and lives with her husband’s children in their home in the United States. Sarah’s relationship with her boyfriend is turbulent. He often hits her when he is frustrated. He tells her daily that she is worthless and that no one would want to be with her because she is overweight and disgusting. Sarah often fights back but these fights often escalate and on two occasions, Sarah tried to commit suicide. The first time happened during a fight that took place early in their relationship and the second time occurred more recently and required hospitalization as she nearly died. She ingested many pills and the combination should have been lethal but she was found by her father in time. Sarah also attempted suicide in High School and she received some treatment at an inpatient facility for adolescents however Sarah did not like the staff at the facility. They treated everyone in a way that was demoralizing and she didn’t like having to wear scrubs and follow very strict rules the entire time she was there.Sarah has experienced extreme mood swings. She was happy and laughing one minute and then rageful the next. She has an ongoing fear of abandonment and any time her friends have not there for her, she has become very agitated. Sarah’s two closest friends have been her friend for 10+ years. One of her friends recently had a baby and doesn’t have time for Sarah like she used to when they were younger. Sarah understands why her friend isn’t available however she is upset regardless. Sarah also doesn’t like the people she works with at her clinic. She has felt like they have done things to steal her clients and they are underhanded.
