Question Case Study: Danny HolmsChief Complaint: Danny, a 19 year old college student was admitted for severe second and third degree burns from a house fire.History: Danny Holms is a 19 year old white male, transported by ambulance to the emergency room after being rescued from his burning house, were he lives with his mother, father and brother. He was asleep at night when a spark from a candle started a fire, leaving him trapped in his bedroom. By the time the fire department arrived, he had suffered severe burns and was unconscious. He was transported to the emergency room with oxygen mask applied.In the emergency room his burns were evaluated and he was found to have primarily second degree burns over the upper half of his anterior chest and his whole left arm. Oxygen was continued and two large bore IV’s were started with lactated Ringer’s solution using Parkland formula. A Foley catheter was inserted and a chest X-ray was ordered. His vital signs were stabilizing and he was responding, complaining of severe pain and asking what happened. He weighs 165 lbs and has no significant past medical history.
