In a contrived case study, Jane Doe is a 65 years old, 300 pound Polish-American woman who has just been diagnosed with stage 3 invasive epithelial ovarian cancer upon visiting her doctor and receiving an ultrasound, blood test, as well as a biopsy from her abdomen after recently experiencing a number of signs and symptoms including severe constipation, bloating and swelling of the abdomen, swelling of the lower extremities, and both pain and discomfort in her pelvic and abdominal region (Timmons, 2019). Before her gynecologist's diagnosis, Jane's family and medical history were evaluated to further assess possible risk factors attributable to epithelial ovarian cancer. She has disclosed to her doctor that she has had a family history of breast cancer and ovarian cancer among her mother and grandmother (Momenimovahed et al., 2019). Risk factors associated with her lifestyle and physical condition include her weight, ethnic background, history of tobacco use, and having no children of her own (Momenimovahed et al., 2019).
