The evidence that our group has gathered pointed towards the fact that nurses who are given a high patient load have a direct relationship to an increased feeling of burnout in the hospital setting (Kelly, et al., 2021). Saying that, it is also found that there is a negative correlation between burnout and resilience: meaning, as burnout increases, resilience decreases as well. This may lead to increased levels of depression, more errors on the unit, or even a higher turnover rate of RNs (Yoruk & Guler, 2020). We discovered that (if unable to provide more nurses to balance out the ratio), if hospitals and administrators are able to provide interventions to increase resilience, this can protect against depression and work related errors (Yoruk & Guler, 2020). While this subject does warrant future research, we believe that if the research was focused on what interventions can be taken to improve resilience, this would benefit all nurses and hospitals in the long run. To translate our findings into practice, hospitals must protect nursing resilience in order to retain high staffing numbers, nursing mental health, and the overall safety of their nurses.
