Although these citizens strove to aid their fellow man, in many cases, there was a prevalent feeling of condescension towards the poorer classes. I believe that the working conditions reform was a huge impact during the progressive era, because this allowed workers safety to not be neglected and get paid more for their valuable skills. It also applied a limit to the number of hours an individual can work at a time. There were kids as you as six years old performing the same level of work as an adult would. The most important factor was putting an age minimum on workers, so that children were not at risk of death and injury.
