Reflect and discuss.I have a few takeaways from this course. First and foremost, prioritization. Executives should be prioritizing the needs and wants of their employees, while operating within their means. This makes the employees feel valued, and reduces turnover. It can be difficult to ensure the appropriate wages are paid or offer certain incentives, due to legislature and cost. That said, there are many alternatives that companies are turning to, like wellness programs and hybrid work schedules. Exterior or environmental factors also need to be The other key element I will take away, is the importance of structure and strategy when developing compensation and benefit structures. Having the creativity to think outside of the box and create programs that benefit both the business and its employees, is an absolute skill. These programs could make or break a decision for a potential hire, to keep them from choosing the competition for their workplace. When working alongside the development and operations teams, I will be able to offer fresher ideas, and a different perspective on compensation needs. Also, now I have the skills to better analyze and identify the strategic elements needed to generate effective rewards and compensation packages. I plan to apply for positions focused on D&I efforts, and compensation takes demographics into consideration. I have a friend, who used to work for Google, that was swayed to Microsoft, partially because of their benefits offerings. To hear that a large, and well known company cares about the effects of the economic crisis that has impacted many, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, warms my heart. Per the company, they “have factored in the impact of inflation and rising cost of living, these changes also recognize our appreciation to our world-class talent who support our mission, culture and customers, and partners.” (Miller, 2022). They are prioritizing their current staff to avoid turnover or being understaffed, while remaining competitive in their market industry.ResourcesMiller, S. C. (2022, May 19).
