Looking back at our childhood, my parents were more strict about giving my sister the freedom to make a mistake, but her consequences were a lot nicer and softer. Whereas my brothers and I had more freedom to do the wrong thing, but the consequences of our actions were a hundred times harsher than hers. So we had the freedom of messing up at the cost of paying a harsher consequence, while my sister had lesser freedom to mess up at the cost of a less harsh consequence if she does mess up. We kind of both did not have full freedom, it was just taught to us in two different ways. But now that I am grown up, I really appreciate having discipline instilled in me at a young age because discipline is the highest form of freedom.Let’s take working out every morning as an example, most people would think you have more freedom if you woke up and decided whether you feel like working out or not, I think that waking up every morning and being forced to workout is a higher form of freedom. Because at the end of the day, I did not choose to feel like not working out, I just woke up feeling lazy, no one chooses to wake up feeling lazy, so if I give in to that feeling, I am letting this feeling (that I did not choose) control my day. Whereas if I woke up and worked out even though I do not feel like it, I have more freedom because even though I did not give myself the option not to work out so it seems like less freedom, I chose to work out even though I felt lazy.
