Question Answered step-by-step A person is made of two things, the good and the evil. There is no… A person is made of two things, the good and the evil. There is no in-between. What grows is what we nurture and feed. the dark side unleashes because of a trigger. A factor that has been piling up through negative emotions the person is feeling, kept and hidden. Mostly these feelings are unsettled or secretly hiding in a façade. The dangerous thing when the dark side is being called to perform is when a person, deep in his heart has so much hatred, jealousy, lust and pain. It is so unquenchable that it leads them to do things they are not supposed to d to satisfy their pain and their deepest desires. Like the narrator in Robert Brownings’ Porphyria’s Lover, he was so driven by his emotions and lustful self that he ended up overdoing things that led him to murder the person he loves. The urge to perform everything that is vile in his mind just to satisfy the pleasure he needs unveiled the dark side in him.   As well as the poem written by Robert Frost, Home and Burial shows that through pain, the dark side could be shown, people who deeply loved each other may throw hurtful words towards each other because of the immense sadness that they are dealing. Pain gives people a reason to not control themselves and through their suffering they want others to feel the suffering too to feel that they are not alone in this world. It breaks relationships and causes people to drift away because words are always like double edged swords. You can kill or destroy a person with just words.  The cruelty shown by the guards in the “Stanford Prison Experiment” is another example of how people nurture and release their dark side, seeing the suffering of other people give them a different kind of satisfaction and leads them to continue on harassing and inflicting pain to other people losing their moral compass because it seems normalized in the space that they are in. It shows that the influence of other people’s dark side has a great effect on one’s self. Therefore, as long as we keep on feeding the dark side of ourselves, the monster will keep on growing and eventually destroy the goodness that lies in our hearts. It is a constant battle within oneself, every single day.  How can we avoid doing that ourselves? The answer to this question is, which part of your soul are you constantly feeding? is it the good or the evil? There are so many factors why a person activates their dark side and it is because of some reasons that happens in one’s life. Let’s take some poems and sources as examples, In the poem Porphyria’s Lover. we see that the narrator was too lustful and in the peak of his pleasure seeking activity that he feels so powerful and in control of the situation. His dominance towards his lover was so strong and uncontrollable. That ended up killing the lover, the selfishness in pursuit of his own satisfaction had led him to do the vilest thing one could do to the person he loves. How can we avoid it? It is to be careful what you feed your mind. If you put in lustful thoughts constantly, It will be unstoppable and will manifest in another way. One should distinguish the difference between love and lust. For love is not a one way street, caring and respecting is vice versa and the least that you could do to the person you love is to hurt them. In the poem, Home and Burial, It shows the struggle of the couple after the loss of their child, they do not know where to place their grief therefore they ended up hurting each other through hurtful words. The constant fight and the feeling of not being understood made them distant towards each other. The way to avoid this situation is for them to understand the root cause of the problem, as both are experiencing immense pain because of grief, they should understand the problem and accept it and move forward to solutions that could fix their problem. heal together rather than throwing hurtful words, stop the negative thoughts they are feeding to themselves. For adversaries could either break them or make them stronger. Throwing hurtful words will not be of help since words are too powerful. It could either destroy or kill a person. The last example is the cruelty of the guards in Stanford Prison Experiment, this is a good example of the cliché, Be careful who your friends are. same goes with be careful of the environment you are in. If you live in an environment that is full of those who chose their dark side, there is a big probability that you will surely be influenced with their beliefs and their values. In an environment that normalizes the wrong, you will have a difficulty to stand on which is right or wrong. Therefore, one way to avoid it is to not put yourself into this situation, always be cautious on the environment that you choose to stay because it will eventually affect your values and beliefs.  Can i get notes and outline for this?
