Heart disease reaches across all demographics and effects us all. The really sad part about this fact is that many of the contributing factors to heart disease are lifestyle choices. As Americans, what things do we do or not do that has lead to the sad state of our heart health as a country? Cancer has got to be one of the most intimidating diseases of our generation. From colon cancer to skin cancer, it seems that no part of our body is immune to cancer. What are some of the most important things we can do as an individual and/or society to help lower our risks? (B) Today we have various types of contraception available to us. Choose two or three methods and evaluate the pros and cons of each. Look at many factors including similarities and differences, costs, availability, realism, and effectiveness. Consider how easily you could evaluate these various methods based on your knowledge. How many sexually active young people in the U.S. do you think have the knowledge to do this? Studies show that even though as a society we are much more aware of the risks of having unprotected sex, people still practice this risky behavior. The numbers of unplanned pregnancies and STI’s in the U.S. is significantly higher than many other countries. So this leads us to look at our society and investigate our short comings. Below you will find a documentary that takes a look at Sexual Education programs in the U.S. and how they differ in other countries as a possible reason for these astonishing numbers. After viewing the documentary, discuss what you think about how the U.S. handles Sexual Education.
