Question Answered step-by-step Hello Everyone, The specific movement that I chose to discuss this… Hello Everyone, The specific movement that I chose to discuss this week was music. More specifically, I chose jazz. Jazz began in New Orleans with the almost mythic figures of Buddy Bolden, the great trumpet player in Lincoln Park in the first years of 1900, and Jelly Roll Morton, who claimed to have single-handedly invented jazz (Martin & Jacobus, p. 248). The attention to jazz music and musicians is important for American cultural history. Beginning with the Blues in the 1800s and the blend of 1900s New Orleans sounds that gave birth to jazz, this music has inspired generations and worked its way into the fabric of American history (Crandall & Accettola, 2018 pg. 75).Kenneth Bruce Gorelick, better known as Kenny G, is an American smooth jazz saxophonist, producer, and composer. With more than 75 million records sold, Kenny G is one of the best-selling artists of all time. Kenny G has faced criticism because people have felt that he didn’t fit into the “traditional” jazz sector. The hot jazz of the time is marked by extensive use of the blues scale, a powerful rhythm emphasizing the second and fourth beats of each measure, and a delight in counterpoint ensemble playing and dynamic solos that show off the talent of virtuoso players. The rhythm section was usually drums, piano, and guitar or bass. The horns, trumpet, clarinet, and trombone played most of the melodic material, supplying complex harmonic support while individuals were soloing (Martin & Jacobus, pg. 269). In response to the scrutiny Kenny G stated  “They must think that my music somehow is going to damage the reputation of traditional jazz, which — it shouldn’t have any effect on anything,” he said. “They have every right to be protective if that’s what they want to do. I’ve got other things to do, which is create and practice (Folkenflik, Wakeam & Bowman, 2021, para. 6).I grew up listening to Kenny G and have always personally loved his music. One of his greatest hits, Songbird is what I have chosen to showcase. Songbird was released in 1986.   ReferencesCrandall, A., & Accettola, A. (2018).
