What do you do for this patient?   Patient # 1: Kyle Berry, 9 year old, DOB 3/12/ XX with hypovolemia s/p appendectomy Seen in the ED late last night for sudden pain in the middle of the abdomen, concentrated around the belly button with nausea, vomiting, fever and diarrhea. At first, the pain came and went however it became persistent and sharp which was when they brought him to the ED. Kyle was moved from the ED to the OR for an emergent removal of his appendix. Kyle has just returned to your floor from the PACU s/p appendectomy for a ruptured appendix. He has a 21gauge IV to saline lock in his right forearm. Admission orders have been written. Patient is currently experiencing pain and is hypovolemic. EBL from the OR is 300. Pt has a JP drain present on right lower quadrant. The surgeon is very concerned about the development of peritonitis. Please watch the patient closely for signs and systems of peritonitis and sepsis.
