Neo-imperialism plays a major part as it prompted trading policies that make developing countries/colonies financially dependent on their colonizers, who happen to be the United States and prominent European countries like France. However, the trades occurring were rarely equal as Eurocentric countries extracted mostly raw material, cheap labor, and slaves from developing countries, while Africa was handed immense amounts of cloth and iron instead of assuming more advantageous material. In a similar vein, NGOs (non-governmental organizations) that coincidentally happen to be US-based contribute to the poverty rampant in countries like Haiti as they pride themselves on being non-territorial and voluntary. What this means is that NGOs are not tied to specific nations as they are donor-driven; an example of this would be when organizations who were providing aid to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake halted financial help as they attended to the tsunami crisis in Japan mere months later, which only left (and continues to leave Haiti) with public health challenges. Another aspect to consider would be the civil warfare that erupts amongst racial and ethnic groups of developing countries in India or the Middle East; if the independent governments in post-colonial India are unable to transition without sufficient resources or even academic institutions that only Eurocentric countries had, then it would only be natural for factional confrontations to arise, which would only lead to further debt for said countries after the number of lives that were killed or buildings being destroyed during the conflicts. Lastly, it’s important to take into account that many social movements that push for less poverty (perhaps in the form of homeless) in developed countries are already funded by the government or other professional organizations, whereas social movements focused on finances in other countries are unable to last as their governments are corrupt (in the sense that they funnel money from citizens into their own pockets) and therefore movements have to follow non-democratic guidelines. Image:  Image transcription textShare of population in extreme poverty, 2019 Our World in Data The share of individuals living below theInternational Poverty Line of 1.90 international-$ per day.
